Goodbye, Grandpa. ‘Til we meet again.

My kind Grandpa Arnold died yesterday morning. He is missed.

This is one of my favorite pictures of him.

For a time reference, the sleeping girl slung over his shoulder is me. And I’m about 4. That would put this around 1979.

Grandma reads my blog, and I’m sure would appreciate any kind words.

I’m flying to St. George this week for his funeral. I haven’t been to St. George in 8 years, when we all flew in for Grandpa’s surprise 70th birthday party, and what a wild party it was!

It’s a gorgeous place, St. George. I’m looking forward to seeing it again. Pomegranates grow, like, in backyards. I know they have to grow somewhere, but it still amazed me to see them in backyards. If I ever had to live in a hot climate (please no. But if I did…), I would grow pomegranates.

    Those are lovely photos.

I’m sorry about your Grandpa. If you felt about him the way I felt about mine, you must be heartbroken. Thoughts to you and your family.

We are the same age. Did I know that already?

  2. Grandma Says:

Thanks Laura. That made me both happy and sad. That was such an enjoyable time we had with you, but now I have to cry about it. Love

  3. Laura Says:

    Thank you, Maggie.

He had Alzheimer’s, so I’m glad he’s not suffering anymore, but it is of course, very sad.

    I love you, Grandma.

Oh dear. . . what a loss. It’s so hard when you lose someone who was suffering. The mingling feelings of relief and grief, joy at their release and sadness from the hole they leave in our lives. I’m so sorry.

I’m so sorry to you, your family and your Grandma abou tlosing your Grandpa. My mom died of Alzheimers so I know what it’s like, to watch someone you love slip away.

St George is a beautiful spot. I visited it when I was at Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks.

    Hang in there.

    Dear Laura,

I am so sorry to hear about your Grandpa’s passing and especially the way the news was delivered. You can indeed take some time to feel sorry for yourself, it is one step in the process of grieving. Buying a charka, is of course, another step. Will you be at OFFF? Spinning therapy will certainly help as well.

For your Grandma and the rest of the family, I am so sorry for your loss. It cannot be easy on the family, but if the pictures on this blog are any indication, there are many wonderful memories to share.

    Hugs,
    jen
