packing

I’m getting ready to go on this 3 day field trip with Abby’s class tomorrow. At least, I would be getting ready, but Clark must know something’s up. He’s being beyond annoying, and I’m so frustrated, I could scream.

I’m so looking forward to sleeping in a tent. And right now, I’m so looking forward to being hours away from my 2 year old.

Thank you all so much for your kind words. I’ve wanted to respond individually to you, and still hope to, but I haven’t had the time yet. I appreciate it, and thanks for reading!

I intend to bring some knitting, along with my guitar on this trip. I want to bring socks, but am afraid what that might do to my elbows, so it’ll probably be lace. Ooh, yeah, the lace I need to knit before the beginning of June. This could be the perfect opportunity. Cool! I’ll ball the skein and post a picture a little later.

I should have something good to show next week. We’re going to the Grand Coulee dam. I hear it gorgeous around there.

I’m going to start a Flower Basket shawl with it. I’m a little concerned about the variegation of colors, but I figure I’ll start it and see how it works out.

I hope you have a blast on the trip, and that Clark and you both enjoy your break from each other 🙂

Good luck with the knitting! I just started my first lace shawl ( a simple one called Alix’s Prayer Shawl that I found on Ravelry) with fingering weight sock yarn and it is fantastic, I can see why you knit so many lace shawls now! It’s definitely easier on my elbows and wrists than sock knitting, sad as it is to admit that.

Are you getting excited for the Twilight movie? I know it doesn’t come out until Dec 12 but I just saw the first preview that was released and it looks like it might actually be pretty good!

I’m kind of scared to see it. First of all, Carlisle, Jasper, and Emmett are all BEYOND wrong, which is driving me crazy. Alice is ok. Bella and Esme look cool. Edward… I don’t know.

The thing is, once I see Edward in a movie, my Edward will be gone forever. I won’t be able to see him anymore, it’ll just be the actor in my head. I don’t know if I’m willing to do that. However, the small snippets I saw on that MTV thing online, well, the action looked exhilarating. Of course, anything looks cool when you back it up with rockin’ roll music like they did in the clips.

I have to say, though, that Bella’s room was exactly the same in my head. Exactly.

Oh I love the Coulee dam area. I went there as a teen with my parents and I remember how beautiful it was then. Have a great time!

You get to get away from the 2 year old? How the heck do I sign up??? My Grandfather helped build the Grand Coulee dam 🙂

In response to the Twilight reference. I understand what you are saying about your Edward. But I really do like the actor they picked and the Bella is excactly as I imagined her. Everyone else isn’t quite what I would have imagined but I’m going to give them a chance anyway when I see it. Do you know if there will be any book parties (like harry potter parties) for the release of the book in August? I sure hope so because I’ll be there at midnight for it 🙂

Have a wonderful time, take lots of pictures, play lots of songs and enjoy yourself. I have four children. No, not as quickly as you had yours, it took 20 years to get from the first to the 4th. There were many days, when the last one (who would have been an only had he been the first) was two that I would have volunteered to sleep in the barn with the cows just to get away for a while.

These days will one day become the ‘good old days’ in your mind.

    Have fun! Jan

Ah ha! Now I know why you aren’t answering your phone! :0) have fun. I think we went there as kids because it sounds familiar. I’ve got a show tonight and anxiety. yay.

Where is the yarn winder that is shown in the picture available? I’m from Canada and would like to purchase one like that.

    Cheers from Canada

I don’t see a brand name on it anywhere. Even the box it came in is plain white. I bought it at a shop that was going out of business 6 or so years ago, so unfortunately, I can’t help you. FYI, it’s small. I haven’t encountered a skein I couldn’t wind on it yet, but sometimes it’s a bit of a pain, because to stretch it out enough to hold the skein, it shrinks the arms down to be very small. It’s clear that the standard skein size is bigger than this swift was designed to handle. Still, I love that it stands on a base instead of having to clamp, and it has always worked well enough. Plus, it easily disassembles to pack back into its original box. If you find one, and don’t mind the smallishness of it, I recommend it.

As I’m sitting here, examining it, I’m thinking it may be homemade by someone, though the craftsmanship is impressive. I didn’t suspect. The cork that covers the sharp pin when it’s disassembled that the swift spins on at the top of the base base is a Gloria Ferrer wine cork.

I did a quick Google search and didn’t find anything, however, I know I have seen a similar looking swift somewhere before. Sorry I can’t be more help.
