Health Group- Year 5, Week 40 (and other things)

Last week was extremely busy at school. But that should all be over now. The medieval unit is over. The spinning teaching stuff is over. I’m so done. Except I’m hosting a cooking party this Saturday for moms to come over and cook stew for 40 people, 2 meals worth for an overnighter field trip next week. I was going to go on the field trip, but they didn’t need me, so I backed out.

I’m so done.

My house, and most every other aspect of my life has been completely neglected for a month or so while I’ve been doing school stuff. I’m going crazy. I want to set my house and everything we own on fire so I don’t have to deal with it.

That’s not true.

What I’d REALLY like is for the Garbage company to deliver one of those huge dumpsters in front of my house so I can throw away almost everything we own without having to sort through it. That way, I’d still have a house to live in, and I do like my house, but it’d be clean and empty. That sounds so nice.

So very, very nice.

But, it’s not going to happen. I can’t escape the fact that I have a phenomenal amount of work in front of me, and it’s all on me.

I managed to exercise 2 days last week. An hour on Monday and 40 minutes on Friday. Now that I’ve dropped out of school :-), that sounds so nice, I should be able to do at least 4 days a week again.

While carding tons of batts for young children to spin last week, I squeezed in two Tweedy Batts for myself.

I haven’t spun them yet. On Friday night and Saturday, in an attempt to decompress and relax a little bit, I spun an ounce + of a hand dyed Tussah silk/Baby camel top that was given to me a couple years ago.

I’m working on the second ounce now, then I’ll ply them together. I think it’d be pretty to knit into another of those little neck scarves with all-over beading.

It’s going to be really hard to focus on my house when I could be spinning that second ounce. But if I do that, it’ll just prolong my clutter-stress. And I don’t want that.

If you feel so inclined, leave me a comment to say hello. Seeing some friendliness in my inbox today will help lighten what looks to be a pretty joyless day.

Hey Laura! I completely relate to fantasizing about getting rid of all our stuff. I’ve often dreamed of having a yard sale and selling off everything in our house. I know I’m getting overwhelmed with stuff when I start dreaming about that. 🙂

Good luck exercising this week! Remember, house work burns calories!

Laura, those batts are lovely! It’s great that you are able to be so involved with your kids’ school, best of luck with the housework.

Oh honey, I haven’t done any decent housework in months! I just sit there are knit. And drive all over the place taking my best friend to her Dr.’s appointments as I’m retired now, and have the wherewhithall to do it. Don’t feel bad, sometimes I think about renting a backhoe and digging it all out of here!

Hello! Word on the dumpster. We got one of those once, when we were ripping out a bunch of mouldy basement bits! So handy to just be able to chuck the stuff right in instead of worrying about getting it to the dump ourselves.

One year my parents realized their garage was a total nightmare dumping ground for things broken, and they hired a truck to come and haul it all out. Two guys and a box van came, and they cleaned out the entire garage in less than an hour. Magical.

In other words, if you really do have stuff you need to get rid of, DO IT! Feels good. 🙂

At least you have a good excuse for neglecting housework. I don’t. I live by myself, am not involved in any activities outside my home and still hate, hate, hate housework. If I could justify having a cleaning lady I would have one. As it is I can only manage to do 15 minutes of housework here and there through the day. I assign myself a room a day. By the end of the week the whole apartment is done and I start all over again. I so much prefer knitting or sewing.

As for your house, as long as there is no health risk ;), keep being with your children. Before you know it they will be out of your home and you will have more time for cleaning (and less reason to do it).

I meant to say I can only manage to do housework for 15 or so minutes at a time. I dislike it so much.

Me again–this is funny. When I reread my first comment parts of it were missing. After trying to clarify what I meant I see that the complete message is there. Weird.
Don’t pay me no mind. Bye.

Hey, Laura! I read your blog everyday and rarely comment but thought I would today. I know how frustrating it can be to get behind on our homes. Just know that your family is going to remember what a wonderful wife and mother you are. I’m envious!!

Hi Laura, the yarn looks so pretty spun up. If I have lots of housework to do, I just think of it as someone else’s house I am cleaning up so it inspires me to finish it much more quickly. Just start with the biggest room first and tackle it as a challenge. Much more fun that way.

Welcome back! I have missed you!! 🙂 My sister just got a dumpster delivered to her driveway. No kidding! They are moving and decided to start chucking. We have been slowly cleaning out and listing things on used web sites and considering a spring garage sale. I want to de-clutter and organize in a major way!! I don’t want to clean in a major way though. I want the house clean, just don’t want to do it. 🙂

Hey La! The yarn and the fleece both look beautiful. I can’t wait to see the beaded scarf you knit up with the silk/camel. I’m glad the medieval unit went well. Any of the children turn out to be spinning prodigies?

  12. Kate Says:

Ahh… the housework will always be there… but someday the kids will be in college.

A good thought of the day: my 7 week old nephew is wearing a t-shirt today that says “Patrick was a saint, I ain’t”— being in Boston and Irish Catholic— this is too cute!

Good luck on the house cleaning. It will feel so great when it’s done, but it’s hard to get started (and you’ve been so busy). Hope it goes faster than you expect it to.

Hi Laura, I read you blog and I really enjoy it. I’m not a big commenter but I did want you to know that I am inspired by how much you accomplish; music, spinning, knitting, cooking, cleaning(!), while also caring for 4 young children. My kids are 7 and 11 and I feel lucky if I can squeeze in 30 minutes of knitting in the evening before collapsing. Also love the occassional pics of Clark. He’s a cutie!
