Health Group- week 35

Good morning! I have a new goal to announce. I desperately want to be under 200 pounds by the time I’m 30. This means I have essentially 14 weeks to lose about 20 pounds. I am 218.5 today. I wanted to be thin by the time I was 30, but that isn’t possible at this point.

Can I do it? I have no idea. On the one hand, sure. It isn’t unthinkable to lose a little over a pound a week. On the other hand, I don’t think I’ve lost that amount of weight in that short a period of time before. But that is my hope and my goal. Once I reach 200 pounds, I’ll be halfway to my ULTIMATE goal, which is 145 pounds, plus or minus.

This week started out well. I did 50 minutes on the treadmill Monday and Tuesday. Tuesday night, I also did a yoga class at church. I don’t really know what happened to the rest of the week, honest. But there wasn’t any exercise to speak of. I’m eating very well, however.

Anyone have a guess as to what this is?

Mmmmm. Home grown alfalfa sprouts! These are SO good. I like to put them in burritos. If you put the cheese and sour cream between the cold sprouts and the hot beans, they stay crisp and yummy. That’s my favorite thing to do with them. Other than that, they’re always good on salads and in sandwiches. But the burritos….. Mmmmmmmm.

Now I’m going to shower and get ready for my spinning class! Let us know how your week went!

Hmmm, I think my kitty might go for those bean sprouts, but not me!! I did try growing my own years ago, but decided that I didn’t like them much. I am still having trouble with my asthma, so I only got in two days of treadmill this week. One day I did an entire hour, but it wasn’t boring! I was reading a book while walking, when I accidentally bumped a button. I was about to increase to ten miles per hour!! Whew! I was able to stop it before I flew off the back, haha! We’ll all be anxious to hear about your spinning class!

  2. Katie Says:

Great goal, Laura – You can do it! You may have to leave out the sour cream though… 🙂 Those sprouts look yummy!

  3. Cher Says:

    Hey Laura,
Of *course* you can do it – it’s twenty pounds, and you’ve already done more than that!

You’ll probably kick me (well, a virtual kick, but you know what I mean) for throwing this out there, but I think you’re already halfway to doing it. Have you considered incorporating some of the Fat Flush plan protocols into your diet?
As I recall, you’re already doing great with the water, which is a key component.

The other big elements are (temporarily) giving up salt, dairy and wheat, adding some chick-friendly supps to your diet, and lots and lots of leafy greens and low-starch vegetables.

(I just lost five pounds this week, and I wasn’t perfect on the plan).
Just throwing it out there for your consideration … Good luck!

  4. Nadia Says:

I didn’t get to the gym, I didn’t make a new dish and I drank too much Coke.

    *sigh*

Maybe this “getting healthy” thing is going to be like bowling: I was such a terrible bowler that even though I ended the year as a somewhat mediocre bowler, being SO horrible in the beginning helped me win Most Improved Bowler of the Year. Maybe I can win Most Improved Eater of the Year Award.

It’s not that I wasn’t thinking about it, life just got in the way again somehow…

This week is Spring Break! I will be victorious!

BTW, when you hit 200, you have to buy yourself some really nice piece of clothing you would never normally buy. Like fancy matching silk undies.

Romantic (NOT!) moment of the day…….my husband gets me alone in the kitchen and whispers “I haven’t asked for a week….Are you using the treadmill?” I guess he can’t imagine how insulting that is………and the one child who has been IN THE ROOM with me the two times I used the treadmill this week, claims that he doesn’t think I used it! Exercising at home has its drawbacks…….

  6. Dani Says:

Well, I already posted about my week on my blog, so I’ll say here that it was not very productive. All the work so far has been to get me into the right mindset. Can you tell that I overthink things?

  7. Dani Says:

I almost forgot — GO LAURA!

  8. Suzy Says:

You can do it Laura! I turn 40 in 7 weeks and how I’d love to be thin…but I’ll settle with thinner and healthier 🙂 I’ve worked my butt off…literally for the past 6 weeks…really upping the exercise the past 2 weeks, getting in 2 hours of exercise a day, 5 days a week. So far I haven’t lost weight, but I’m starting to see some real changes in my body. It’s frustrating not to see the scales go down, but I’m hanging in there and telling myself that I’m losing fat, gaining muscle, and some day soon, the weight will start dropping!!!

By the way, I love sprouts, and share your fondness for milkglass and African Voilets 🙂

  9. Laura Says:

Suzy- That is so cool! Good job on the exercise. It is exciting to see changes in your body, even if the scale isn’t going down. And wow about the sprouts, milkglass, and violets!

Dani and Nadia- don’t give up. Everyone has bummer weeks.

Jenny- good job on the treadmill. Sounds like we did about the same this week!

Cher- I’ve never heard of Fat Flush, but there is absolutely no way I would take wheat out of my diet. I eat it whole grain, which is certainly better than refined, but I firmly believe that wheat is very good for the human body when used wisely. We don’t do much dairy, and I’ve been cutting out cheese snacking the past few weeks. I haven’t seen a difference on the scale yet, but I figure, it HAS to help!

Katie- awwwww, do I HAVE to? I LOVE sour cream. Blast!

Losing weight is can be hard, but you can do it. I turn 30 in June and just lost 50 pounds.

  11. Cole Says:

Losing weight has become much harder in my thirties, but my sister has lost a lot of weight (she’s 33) and kept it off for 3 years and I think the key in your 30s to keeping it off is building muscle mass. She spends as much time lifting weights as she does working out aerobically and you can tell the difference in her metabolism.

  12. carolynHoe Says:

You can lose the ##. I did it. It all about portion control and exercise to get that oven cookin’!! Keepin’ it off is the harder part….the comfort eating, especially in wintertime…So, I’m wondering where you got the sprout growers. Thanks!
