Mother’s Day Diagonal begins

I have begun the diagonal Bottoms Up, and so far, it is going well. I like the diagonal pattern and it is fun to do. I am at the stage in the pattern, where I’m making the brim longer, before the final decrease to start the head bit, and I’m not sure how this is going to work. It is HUGE! I don’t think that decreasing 10 more stitches and switching to one strand of yarn is going to make this thing fit my head. My gauge swatch was correct, so I’m continuing on faith. If it doesn’t work, I’ll try more decreases. I am having a lot of fun with it.

Here’s a close up. I hope you can see the pattern.

I’m not sure how I feel about the sheen on this yarn. It’s kind of weird.

And now, since I have quite the back up of photos, and no gallery to put them in, here’s another hat photo. I made two and sent one to my sister.

This was one of my first attempts at breaking out and creating something unique.

Isn’t that interesting? I tried making a diagonal pattern on one of the Bottom’s Up I attempted to make, only I wanted the diagonal lines to be like a band around the hat. I never did finish, though…it got too hard to knit and I ended up ripping it. I think yours is going to look spectacularrrr!

I love the hat your daughter is wearing.

And your kids are gorgeous! Lucky mom!

Diagonal Bottoms UP? Looks great, but did I miss something? I have the BUP pattern from Chicknits and there’s nothing about a diagonal brim. I really like what you are doing with it though, please share.

Maggie- I didn’t know you started a bucket hat with a diagonal! Did you blog about it? Did I just miss it? Hmmm. Sorry to hear yours didn’t work out. Perhaps I should glean something from that, but I probably won’t :-).

Alison- thank you. Once I get it figured out, I will be happy to share my methods. I’m no pattern writer though, so follow me at your own risk!

I never did blog about it…it was a failed attempt at a baby hat that ended up too big, and I don’t enjoy knitting on such small circulars as it is that I never went back and tried it again. So no, you missed nothing!
