Health Group- week 46

The good news is that I’m feeling better! I think I’ll be able to start up with the exercise next week. I’m looking forward to it.

This week, I didn’t do any aerobic exercise. I’ve been doing my PT, which does wear me out. I’m getting stronger. My back is feeling better. Things are good.

This week, I ate a lot of homemade hummus. Before I got my hands on some EXCELLENT pita chips, I was eating it on stalks of celery. Mmmmm. That was good. The pita chips are good, too.

What I love about hummus: (aside from the fact that it’s yummy).

I can make it from scratch. I love cooking things from raw materials. Soaking and cooking beans, etc. It’s fun.

The ingredients store well. Dry garbanzo beans, tahini, minced garlic, lemon juice, salt…. All of these things can be kept and stored, so if I ever get the jones, I can make it without having to run to the store.

It’s healthy. I haven’t done a lot of research, just some quick reading, but it’s supposed to be way good for me. And, according to my M-I-L, garbanzo beans have some of the same vitamins that grean leafy veggies have. She’s on blood thinners, and has a list of foods she can’t eat. Unfortunately for her, hummus is one of them. I take that to mean it’s quite good for me!

It is both a snack AND a meal! If I want a little snack, it does the trick. If I keep snacking, I’ve got a meal out of it.

It fills me quick, and I stay full for a long time. Aren’t beans GREAT?!

    Hiya,
I don’t know why, but I’m just not a big fan of hummus. I tend to like the dips that are full of sour cream like onion dip and guacamole which is probably why I’m overweight in the first place! Well, I decided to finally buy the digital scale this week get my butt (literally) in gear. Remember I had all that enthusiasm and I was losing like 3 lbs a week for the first two months of the year? Where did all that energy go? That zip! Such vigor! I want it back! I been eating way too much fast food lately due to the move and “celebrating” with good (as in yummy, not good for me) food so I was scared to look. But the damage isn’t too bad – certainly not devastating so here’s hoping things get better next week. Now, I think I’ll just go have that last ice cream sandwich…

I love hummus. I made it once from tinned chickpeas and wasn’t happy with the result. I have to try again with the dried stuff. Also, instead of tahini I used a few drops of sesame oil since that’s what I had, and while it did give it a sesame flavour, it wasn’t quite right. Now I’ve got a craving. Shopping tomorrow and hummus-making tomorrow night.

I was just thinking about hummus today while I was in the grocery store, buying supplies for my first week of Change One. I’ve only tasted it once, but I liked it. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find it in my local grocery stores yet. I haven’t been able to find tahini, either. I think I may have to branch out to the specialty shops.

if you’re so into hummus, you might wanna mix it up a little – throw in some roasted red peppers, flavour it with cumin and cayenne (heat – like spicy heat – gets your metabolism going!). you could expand the profile of micronutrients you’re getting by looking up other bean dips to try – ever been to epicurious.com ? i have white bean dip on my mind now… oh, and refried beans… and chickpea salad… mmmm…. (i’m vegan – i eat a lot of beans.)

Mmmmmm… Hummmmmus… the one time I had it in a dip, it was delish! I will have to sample yours, as I predict it will be much BETTER! Thank your MIL for the tip on it being high in Vitamin K as I have to be careful of that, too, but as long as it is in moderation, it’s OK. I will just have to eat less asparagus or broccoli this week.

Well, I haven’t been reporting for awhile and I need the accountability. I worked out a few times last week in my living room. The SI6 video I did has a lot of knee bends and squats which my knee won’t endure, so I did the best I could. I did however weigh in, and I was down an exciting 6.5 pounds (!!!!) over the week before. Not sure what it was, but I am ecstatically happy about it!!!!

In fact, I think a nice workout this afternoon sounds good.

I was also invited to go swimming in the mornings with my MIL at St Edwards Pool. I am not a fish, but I know it is good exercise and they have an old-folks water aerobic class at the shallow end I could do while she swims. Yes, I am holding back because I like to sleep in. Somebody, please kick me.

    To a good week!!!

Hummus – yum!! One of my all time favorite snacks too! And Pita Chips – like those too! Have you ever tried their brownie mix “No Pudge Brownies”? Not bad for fat-free low cal brownies, but I like Krusteaz’s fat-free brownies better. Durn – now I’m hungry for brownies!

    Have a good week!

Hi! I came to your site to look at the shawl, which is gorgeous. Saw your link to the pita chips — funny, I blogged about the same ones last week!
