A fond farewell

Here she is, and there she goes. The red Flower Basket Shawl is already wrapped and ready to be sent off to a very deserving friend.

We couldn’t get a good shot of the back while it was on me, as my photographer is 6 years old and limited in her skill and patience. So here it is on the hood of my truck.

I’ve made two so far, and still don’t have a Flower Basket of my own. There remain a couple of friends I’d love to make one for, so who knows if I’ll ever own one. Even though I added a chart repeat to make the shawl a little bigger, I don’t think it’s quite big enough for me. When I slim down a bit, I might try it. I think it looks like it’s trying too hard to make it around my meaty arms. I tried it out as a head/hair wrap, like in the 50’s, and it looked really cool, however I’m not sure I can carry off that look.

What’s next? Well, I still need to finish up the VCC, and Cable-Eight. I have a gazillion sock patterns laying around, and sock yarn for that matter that I’d really like to try. The problem is that every time I sit down to start, I realize I don’t really want to be starting socks. I still have a couple of dolls to make, but those are quickie projects. I’ve seen some cheap lace weight alpaca in a couple of the yarn-by-mail catalogues I’ve received recently, and I’m thinking about making the Lily of the Valley shawl with it. Lace weight alpaca doesn’t have the halo that a mohair blend has, but it does have more of a soft focus look than straight merino. And it would be considerably cheaper. Plus, it’s alpaca. Sounds luscious.

oooo..it’s gorgeous! The color, oh goodness, I love that color. It looks pretty on you!

Wherever did you find that butterfly pin??

    great job!

Your newest Flower Basket is so very lovely. I cannot wait to knit that pattern.

Have you considered knit picks for some lace weight? I purchased their Alpaca Cloud a few months back and it is very heavenly (and inexpensive).

I dunno….looks pretty darn nice on you! Better make one for yourself too!

That red FB Shawl takes my breath away! Whoever is receiving this has my envy! I totally think you could get away with the 50’s hair wrap look… I wish I was more daring with my appearance sometimes. My aunt in England sent me a beautiful pashmina scarf which I probably wouldn’t hesitate to wear if I was still in London. But here? I know I’d get some odd looks – people would think “who does she think she is?” Unless of course, it was an evening out… but oh how long it has been since my husband and I have had one of those!

When I saw Fond Farewell I thought you were giving up the blog!! Don’t be scaring me like that! I read you first, every day. You look lovely in your Flower Basket. I made one too and they are small…but so pretty. Treat yourself, you are a fast knitter it’ll be done in no time.

Laura, I think that is TOTALLY fitting on you! It looks awesome on you! Make one for yourself. You did a fantastic job. Cute Veronica pictures yesterday too.

It looks lovely! You absolutely have to make one for yourself too. And I like the way you are wearing the shawl with a pin, I wouldn’t have thought of that myself (finished my FBS last week or so).

  8. FYRKRKR Says:

I think it looks beautiful on you and that pin is perfect for it. Both are stunning, but they really set each other off well!

It’s summer, I agree, not time for socks, time for lace.

Katie, think how much more fun it would be if we all wore those “who does she think she is” outfits or styles more often. Go for it – while you still can! It isn’t doing much good in a drawer is it?

  9. Colleen Says:

It’s beautiful, and it will make a wonderful gift.

Your (and soon-to-be *not* your) FB shawl is gorgeous!
It has nearly removed the temptation of Cable-Eight. (Because I am not that great of a cabler.)
You should be proud. And so should the recipient.
