Really?

When I logged in today to post, I noticed that I now have exactly 3,000 comments! Holy cow! Thank you all so much for reading and commenting. It’s been a lot of fun, as well as extremely useful. You all are very resourceful you know, and have helped me on many occasions. Thanks!

Getting down to business, the front of Abby’s sweater is done!

It looks quite good! Here’s another question for you. Do I have to block it before I seam? I don’t want to. Blocking things that still have stitch holders in them bugs me, although I’ve done it before, and I’m anxious to sew her up! When I do block it, I think I’ll take the opportunity to also block the sleeves to the VCC, at which time I’ll be able to sew that up as well, unless I decide to frog the armholes and add a couple of inches to the body. Which is highly likely, sorry to say.

In other news, I might be making another Flower Basket Shawl for a dinner auction at the girls’ school. I’ve been asked to head up the contribution from Olivia’s class, and that would be easy for me, plus a great way to rack up some of the “mandatory parent contribution hours” that the program Olivia is in requires. Another option, since they suggest having the children participate in whatever goes to auction, would be a lot more work, but could also be a lot of fun. I was thinking about bringing in my yarn, and the Best Friend Dolls I’ve made that are still in my possession, and set up “design groups” where the kids would divide up into small groups with one supervising adult, and design a doll. They would pick the colors, hairstyle, and outfits, and I’d knit them up. (I’d probably seek out some other knitters from school to help with that one). That way, at the dinner, we could showcase the dolls and put beside them a card listing the children who designed it. Thus appealing to the children’s parents, as the recommendation from the school implied. While I’m aware a boy wouldn’t want the doll, I’d imagine a 6 year old boy wouldn’t mind designing one.

Sounds like fun, doesn’t it? And yes, I’m insane.

Finally, here’s a picture of our lovely fall sky here in Seattle, especially for Sandy!

If you had some groups that are just boys, they might like designing some really cool looking boy dolls.

Sounds like a fun project. Good luck with it.

hmm, I tend to think that blocking before sewing is better just because it makes the edges SO much smoother and easier to sew up. It makes the seaming itself much less of a chore. Also, blocking two layers of sweater takes forever to dry. But that’s just my opinion on the matter. 🙂 The H looks awesome.

Oh, I like it. LOVE it actually.
I’m so going to have to knit myself another one. After the other 556789 projects I have in mind.

    How are you feeling.

You don’t *have* to do anything. You are the boss of your knitting. 🙂 I usually block once I’ve sewn up. Or you could join the shoulders and finish the neckline then block it before sewing up the sides and adding the sleeves.

okay, two days in a row with the lovely denim quilt in the background, so i have to ask: did you make it yourself? it looks so cozy…

and the sweater looks great! i hate blocking when there are things still attached as well, so i usually just steam the edges flat to make seaming easier, then block afterwards, if at all. i am a bad no-blocking knitter sometimes, i admit it.

Thanks so much for that picture of the Seattle sky- it made me smile! I just moved to Chicago after doing my undergrad in Tacoma, so I’m definitely missing my Northwest weather.
Best of luck with the auction project 🙂

I personally prefer to seam everything before blocking. The HP sweater is going along beautifully, may I ask what yarn you are using?

I joined the “Another Weasley” and still have to buy the yarn and decide on a pattern. At the rate I am going it will be awhile before I start 🙂 I love that yarn you are using! I am impressed to read that this is your first intarsia. It is beautiful! I have never done any intarsia or fair isle so I am in awe. I will be back to check on the finished product.

I think the doll idea for the classroom is a great one… it’s always better to involve the kids in auction items because parents will bid higher for their kids’ work. I remember there was an auction at one of the schools where I did my student-teaching. One classroom hand painted a pair of anirondak deck chairs and they sold for $5000!

The sweater looks great! I say whatever you like best, it’s all up to you. There are no rules in knitting, I think.

I think the doll idea for school is a great idea!
As for blocking – well, you already know how much I hate that. I’ll be quiet.

the doll idea rocks! what about letting each group vote if they want to design a boy or girl doll….a boy could have shorter hair and a tee/ shorts or pants… would it be that much differant to knit?
