Yes, yes, it’s only been 4 months

Remember this? Well, it happened again, although this time, they smashed Nate’s car window and stole his Franklin day planner. Jerks.

So I’m in a hurry this morning to post, then we’re off to the glass shop. Again.

There it is. Abby’s Harry Potter Sweater. She’ll be wearing it for the next 20 years. It’s humongous, but I was going for oversized, so it’s fine. Her first response was, “It’s a FAT sweater!” Whatever. That being said, she didn’t want to take it off at bed time last night, and was bummed we wouldn’t let her sleep in it. And it’s on her body at school today, even though I haven’t sewn a “plea to return” label in the back yet. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that it comes home.

So, remember my rant on Friday about size? Well, I measured a fleece pullover that Abby wears. It was 33 inches across the chest. I knit the 32 inch size sweater (and my gauge is right on), and it hangs like a circus tent. I have no faith in measuring garments that already fit.

I’m glad she likes it.

Yesterday, I started on a doll for my sister. It’s completely groovy. I’ll show you tomorrow.

It’s b-e-a-utiful! Looks like she likes it ok;)
    Nice work, as usual.
    Sorry about the car:(

  2. Jessica Says:

That totally sucks about Nate’s car.
Abby looks like she loves her sweater though.

    Sorry about the car.

Side note — I hate unnecessary car stuff. I got rear ended in a drive up window line this week. Just a light tap, but enough to scratch the car slightly. So, I got out to look at it. The woman who hit me didn’t apologize, which was bad enough, but then she denied hitting me! When I asked for her registration info (in case I found more damage later and placed an insurance claim) she blamed “people like me” for causing insurance rates to go up. I reminded her that I was minding my own business and SHE was the one who hit ME as she was trying to prevent someone else from merging into the line. In the end, the sratch is so minor I can probably buff it right out, so insurance didn’t get involved. But this RUDE woman left a bad taste in my mouth!!

Anyways, the HP sweater is great! Did it really measure out to a finished chest of 32″ or was the pattern wrong? I made a 32″ sweater for a niece about Abby’s age recently, and it didn’t look nearly as big. Of course, Abby is probably thinner than my niece too. But, in any case, it will look great this year AND next!

aw, she looks so happy in her sweater! fantastic job 🙂 sorry about the car misfortunes – ugh

I can’t believe your car got broken into again! Why would someone steal someone else’s planner – that is really annoying… I love the sweater – I measured Nathan, but who knows how it will turn out if the pattern is off. Oh well, if it’s bigger my boys will get more wear out of it.

Abby, you look adorable; it looks great on you!

La, did the sweater make it back? And the rest of your day? I’m sorry I got tied up at work. Stupid work. And Nate’s car!!! Stupid jerks.

  7. Jenn Says:

THe sweater looks great! And Abby looks so adorable!

  8. Dani Says:

Sorry that you guys got hit again, Laura. I had a coworker who never locked his door or rolled up his windows because he had to replace three windshields in the space of six months due to smash-and-grabs like that.

Katie, they probably stole the planner because there are people who actually keep their important info in it like bank acct# and password or PIN.

I don’t remember what you made your sweater out of, was it Felted tweed? If so, it blooms. A lot. When washed. Is that what through your gauge off?

I discovered it with my first Harry Potter sweater. You’re right though, they will get to wear their sweaters for 20 years, that’s a bonus!

  10. Becky Says:

I LOVE Abby’s sweater! I’m sure she will grow into it (and out of it) much quicker than you expect, and even big on her, it looks great!

Was this the Rowan pattern or Alison’s? Any suggestions or thoughts for others making one?

  11. Amanda Says:

could you let me know where you got that Harry Potter “H” sweater pattern from? I’m just a beginning knitter but i looooove harry.

  12. Ruth Says:

Abby’s sweater looks fabbo … I can understand why she doesn’t want to take it off.

So sorry about the car. I was rear-ended in our library’s parking lot recently, and the attendant hassle was a complete pain. You have my most sincere sympathy.

Wow, it turned out great!!! That yarn sure does knit up purty. Glad she loves her sweater! (Love the missing tooth pic too!)
