Health Group- Year 2, week 41

Good morning.

We are busy over here. I’m packing the remainder of the kitchen. It is now at the point where I’ll pack half a box, then I have to sit for a few minutes, then I pack the rest of the box, and sit…. It’s tedious.

I reserved our U-Haul truck two weeks ago, and last night, they left a message on my cell phone saying the truck wasn’t available. We’re still waiting to hear whether or not they’re going to be able to do anything for us. That is SO lame. Particularly because if I’d called and cancelled last night, I still would have been charged something. So reservations only work in THEIR favor, I guess.

Last night, I went to the mall and bought some new jammies and undies for the hospital. Because I wanted to. Then I went to the Body Shop and picked up a full compliment of their extremely yummy Vitamin E skin care line, and their Warming Mineral Face Mask. Say it with me, “Mmmmmmmmmmm”. I really like the stuff, and have been out of it for several months.

Also, I stopped by the Motherhood Maternity store, which had just closed, so I was talking to them through their gate. At the shower yesterday, one of my friends had the most fantastic diaper bag, and she said she got it at Motherhood. So I asked them to show me the green one. It’s quite ugly in that photo, but it’s really, really pretty in person. I want one.

I have to be getting exercise today because I’m breathing very heavy with the smallest exertion.

That’s my lead-in to Health Group. How’s it going out there?

Fantastic, U-Haul just called. We can’t get a truck today. I hate them.

I really, really hate them.

Want to borrow Abner back? Just hook him to a wagon and off you go!!
Seriously you deserved all the mall goodies…really.

uhaul is not a nice place to deal with! When my husband transferred job, the corporation that he worked for called, made and paid for the largest Uhaul truck for us. Come moving day we ended up with 2 of the smallest uhaul vehicles known to man. Some how it all works out in the end.. Good luck and God speed with your move.

So sorry about Uhaul. My brother had really horrible service from them so he stried Budget for his last move and was very happy with them. The diaper bag is cute! Would you happen to want the Jan/Feb ’06 issue of Handwoven? I have an extra and would love to send it to you (to your new house so you don’t have to worry about packing it)…….just let me know.

An update from Laura’s neighbor – The moving van problem worked out OK because they were able to rent from another company. So, not to worry.

Now, let’s just hope for Nate and Laura that little Clark doesn’t decide to make his grand entrance early!

I know how UHaul can be. I rented a truck from them five years ago to move out of my old apartment and the truck died on the highway at night. Bad enough that it happened but the clutch died, the emergency brake didn’t work, and they didn’t have any chocks under the drivers seat to set the wheels. As a result we had the truck roll into my Dad’s pickup while we sat and waited for a tow truck!

To add insult to injury I got a call from the location that I rented from and asked in an insulting way where their truck was! Good thing for me I had the confirmation number for the service call and all charges were removed from my credit card. Soooo, in the end the only cost incurred was gas in the tank.

But after a long grueling day I would have been happier not to sit on the side of the highway for an extra hour and a half of my life!

Uhaul is the absolute worst. We call them “Uhate” here. You should google (or MSN Search) “Uhaul hate” and there will be TONS of websites devoted to consumers being screwed by Uhaul. Ryder has better servcie but ever since Timothy McVeigh, their business has dropped- not their fault of course. I’m sorry you have to deal with that- I tell everyone I know not to use them.

How horrifying. So glad a replacement company worked out, I can imagine nothing worse on moving day when you’ve got everything ready to go, people lined up to help out and no freaking truck. When we moved last summer we booked a UHaul about 3 weeks in advance. I tried making a reservation from the dealer near our old place, but they gave me shit service on the phone, and didn’t call me back in a timely fashion. I gave up, and called the UHaul dealer near the new house. We moved to a small town and the difference in service was staggering. The person we got was very nice, took her time and went over all of the plans and sizes with us and they were fantastic both when we picked up the truck and took it back.

Whoops, sorry! I didn’t mean to sully your blog. I meant to say, “terrible” service.

  9. Karma Says:

Sorry about the UHaul debaucle. That stinks. Not what you needed. I’m glad you took a break to pamper yourself a little at the mall yesterday… and that diaper bag is really pretty!

I know you can hold that kid in for a few more days! Moving at the end of your pregnancy–that’s nesting to the extreme :-).

Health Group: I’m being inspired by “The Biggest Loser” these days. Right now I am reading Jillian Michaels’ book ad I am going to try out the Biggest Loser workout tomorrow.

oy, u-haul! we reserved a truck a MONTH in advance because we were moving away from a college town at the end of June. Turns out reservations mean nothing, but my lovely husband can be very stern and got us the next size up (17′) for the reserved size price. glad things worked out for you, but blech that they caused you that stress in the first place!
