Why didn’t I think of that?

Well, I did. It just took some prompting.

Yesterday, I went to my LYS, which was closed. That is frustrating. Do you know how much energy and effort it takes to take 4 kids anywhere? But I guess this yarn store closes at 2 on Wednesdays for some reason, so I loaded, unloaded, and re-loaded all those munchkins for nothing. BUT, on the way there, Liv started up about how much she wants to knit again. This would mean buying her new needles, because hers are either missing or broken. (I can’t remember, but it’s one of those). It occurred to me at that moment that what I ought to do is let the girls knit THEIR OWN Christmas stockings. Yes?

So, that is what we’re going to try. Thus, about the only patterning we can do is stripes. But I think it’d be really cute to have stockings that the girls knit themselves. Maybe I can even get Veronica to knit? I’ll do the heel turning and gusset of course, but the rest, on a circular needle ought to be easy.

I still need to find yarn. From a yarn store that stays open during business hours.

I think we’re going to have the knitalong right here on Fridays. It works for me. I’m not sure about a start date yet, but if you’re already going on it and are dying to show or tell me about it, feel free.

Knitting there own stockings should be a great, fun summer project. I look forward to seeing the progress! It might even motivate me to get my own done.

Awesome idea. Grace (she’s 5) has been working on a scarf for her cousin – hopefully it won’t be finished until her cousin learns how to accept a gift with tact and grace (no pun, promise) rather than hurting the feelings of the maker by declaring that it is hideous!!!

but making her own stocking – that’s just brilliant… I think I might just jump on that bandwagon. I’ll pitch it to her after lunch.

    Great idea

Oh what a good idea! The girls will love having stockings they made themselves, and as they get older they might laugh just a little at how they turned out but will have great memories of making stockings with their mom. 🙂

    Laura,

Just had to update you… This is SO cool. My husband said he’d knit his own stocking if my daughter would knit her own… thinking that she wouldn’t agree to it – and of course (being her mother’s daughter and all) she JUMPED all over that… so we cast on last night and he knit 5 rounds of his very own stocking…

so we are a bit early for the knit-a-long, but you have 3 of us 🙂 I can’t even believe he’s going to try to knit his stocking. It’s just so darn sweet.
