Frogs!

image

I love these little frogs. When I was a kid, we had them in a bowl on the kitchen counter for many years. As an adult, I came to find out that the pet stores say they are “warm water” frogs, for heated aquariums only. Well, my personal experience wins out, and I have some in a bowl on my kitchen counter again.

I don’t know how they behave in an aquarium, but in a bowl of still water, they casually swim around. They like to hold air bubbles in their tummy and float on the surface of the water, then they burp and sink back to the bottom. I feed them freeze dried blood worms, and when they smell it, they paddle around on the surface, looking for food. My mom had a pair that you could hear sing under the water. They’re immensely cool. Clark loves to watch them.

Mine are thin and scrawny now as we’ve only had them for a couple weeks, but they’re already filling out, and soon they’ll be nice and thick.

I couldn’t get to sleep last night, so I stayed up until 1am finishing Abby’s stocking and looking at argyle charts.

I need to weave the duplicate stitch ends in still, but that’s it. I really like it.

Your Christmas stockings are looking so great. I am glad to see you have time to knit again. I know for me if I don’t have a small amount of time for some kind of crafting, I go a little loopy:) Can’t wait to see the other stockings.

Oh, your frogs are cute, but they don’t hop out of the bowl??

How cool are those frogs. They are an unusual pet, but I bet the kids love them. It will keep Clarke entertained for a while at least. I love the xmas stocking, it looks so nice.

Any links to the argyle charts? I’m currently beginning some argyle wrist warmers for my daughter with these as an inspiration. Socks to come….

    I’ve always LOVED argyle socks!

Cute frogs! I was just looking at those while we were at the pet shop purchasing ‘equipment’ for my daughters turtle. My son (8) wants a pet since his siblings each have one (the turtle and the leopard gecko). My thought was that the frogs would be difficult and probably not live a long time. Interesting to hear differently!

    ps…great job on the stockings!!

The stocking is very nice. I love it.

We’ve had pygmy frogs in our aquariums in the past and never had much luck with them. It was hard feeding them and the fish without the fish getting to the bloodworms first. And the frogs didn’t seem especially intelligent because they would be hanging out on a rock or th gravel, food would fall directly on their head or their body and they wouldn’t even notice it. I’ve never seen any just in a bowl before…..hope they do well…..the kids love them!

    Hi Laura!
The stocking looks fantastic, I love the way it came out, colors, snowflake, everything! I got my pattern the other day, but have to figure out what colors I’m doing and get myself moving 🙂

The frogs are fantastic! Can you tell me how you take care of them, my kids would LOVE that!

I love those frogs. I used to have 3 when I was about 5 or 6. Mine used to sing too. They do just fine in an aquarium. I was looking on google for info about them b/c I plan on getting some again for my tank. That’s how I came across this. Just be careful not to take them out and play with them. They can jump away and disappear. I’ve had it happen 🙁
