Boom! Bang! Bam! Scrape!

That is the gl-ORIOUS sound of roofers! On MY roof. In the SUNSHINE!!!

Oh, we’re very happy today.

So happy that we’re ignoring (at least right now) the fact that I feel very sick, despite my best efforts, and I have a trouble spot in my back now that flares up when I stand for more that a few minutes.

It’s all trivial. I’m getting my new roof!

In theory, the contractor that is fixing my bathroom floors will be here tomorrow.

I have spackling and touch up painting to do, and I’m continuing to pack.

Oh, and I’ve found what I want for a housewarming gift. It’s the COOLEST THING EVER!!! But I can’t link it. So, if you’re interested, go here, then look for the link in the sidebar to Woodstock Gongs. Then click on either the Large Chinese Wind Gong

or the Chau Gong

and then, click the link to listen to them.

Did you do it? Can you stand it? Is that not the most fantastic sound ever?

It is. I want one.

Health Group- Year 2, week 35

Good morning.

I’m not feeling well. I’ve been fighting a cold all week, and today, I’m extremely tired. We’re having a wind storm today, and the power is going on and off. It isn’t as bad in our little cul-de-sac as I’m sure it is elsewhere. Right now, we sit at the base of a big hill, which shelters us I’m sure. The new house is on TOP of a big hill, so I have no doubt we’ll get hit harder by windstorms in the future. But our chances of flooding will be dramatically reduced!

However, remember that we had roofing supplies delivered and stacked on top of our roof yesterday, so I’ve spent the morning picking up plastic vents that are blowing off, and I’ve noticed that one of the packages of shingles has opened and is starting to blow around.

Lovely.

All my energy is being spent packing and arranging to move. It’s getting harder as I’m getting further along in the pregnancy.

Today, Nate is doing “handyman” things around the house like replacing the garbage disposal, faucets, maybe sinks and dimmer switches. Handyman does not come remotely natural to the poor guy, so he’s having a rough time of it. Being born male doesn’t automatically mean you know how to do all of those things.

I’ve kind of given up on healthy eating for right now. Every time I try, my stomach hurts. Right now, dairy, sugar, and simple carbs are the only things I can stomach, and dairy is the only thing that soothes. It’s so weird. We had gone completely to soymilk before the pregnancy, but I’ve been drinking a ton of cow milk.

Last night for dinner, I had manicotti, and my stomach didn’t hurt! I’m tired of fighting it. So I’m not going to.

I can’t breathe

Today, as most Fridays, has been busy. I started out the morning helping in Olivia’s class, then we went to the chiropractor, an interior design shop, ate lunch, and went to Lowe’s where we got new vinyl flooring for our current house, 2 bathroom sinks (which I think I’ll have to return), 2 bathroom faucets, a new doorbell cover, a dimmer switch, an outlet face plate, and samples of other vinyl flooring for our kitchen. Part way through all that, I had a heart racing episode, and had to lay on the concrete floor, later moving to a chair, for a long time to catch my breath. Veronica was a peach.

Sucks. I had even eaten a turkey sub sandwich on wheat bread with lots of vegetables for lunch. It shouldn’t have happened.

Now I’m exhausted, and I’m going to lay down before the girls come home.

After I make a phone call to see if someone can come over and help Nate replace bathroom sinks and faucets tomorrow.

On the plus side, there is now fresh roofing supplies sitting on my roof, waiting to be installed on Monday. So that’s something. Pray for good weather.

Packing again

I found my purple Hayden Hat! It’s been missing for a long time, and yesterday as I was packing some hats, I found it sneakily nestled inside of a baseball hat. I’d moved the baseball hats many times in search of it, but admittedly hadn’t separated and looked INSIDE of each of them. I’m just happy to have found it.

And it’s been awhile, so I’ll gripe about being pregnant again. Food has once again proved my nemesis, so yesterday I thought I’d start on a strong foot. I had scrambled eggs (which I had to force myself to eat), whole wheat toast, and orange juice. What in the heck is wrong with that? I was sick the ENTIRE day. My stomach hurt, and I had no energy.

This morning, I had half of a piece of leftover cheese pizza, and some apple jacks. My stomach doesn’t hurt as bad as it did yesterday, but I have absolutely no strength. Which may have something to do with the fact that I woke up at 2:30 this morning, couldn’t sleep, got out of bed and started an Esther hat for my sister-in-law.

Then at 6, I fell asleep again, fitfully, until 7ish. And I want to die.

I’m excited at the prospect of having someplace new to take my knitting pictures. I’m a bit tired of the front porch. In the new house we’re trying to buy, the entire ceiling of the master bathroom is glass. Lots of natural light! New surroundings! (Until we’re all tired of seeing my bathroom in the background), and I won’t have to put on shoes and make sure I’m decent before taking the photos like I do now! Not to mention arousing neighbors’ suspicion as to the legitimacy of my sanity as I waddle out the front door in pj’s and slippers each morning, take a picture of something, turn around and waddle back.

People write books about that sort of thing.

And if I’d waited one. more. day….

There was a reason I waited to rant about the deck. I wanted to make sure it was legit before ranting, and as it turns out, it looks like I needed to wait one more day. The contractor I took out there yesterday, who came very highly recommended by my building inspector, and who seemed quite knowledgeable, said that the deck isn’t as bad as all that. He said that it’s sound, and that after adding extra support under the hot tub, and replacing one rotted beam, it will be fine for a long time. I’m also going to have him build up the handrails on the stairs that are too short, so no one goes plummeting to their death, but I must say it was a tremendous relief to hear that the deck can stay, and the repairs aren’t going to be expensive. He said the repairs can wait until summer, and in the meantime, as long as I don’t have the entire Seahawks team jumping on the one corner with the rotted beam, we’re good. I was hoping to get 5 more years out of it, and he said there’s more than that left.

Huzzah!

What’s left from the money the sellers are offering to fix the deck, should be enough to do most everything else inside and/or in the front. So we may be signing off on the inspection today, pushing us that much closer to finalizing things. If that’s the case, then as I see it, all that’s left for me to be neurotic about is getting our house ready to sell and hoping it sells pretty darned fast once it’s listed.

And I must say, since I’ve had some comments and emails from kind and concerned blog readers and family, the house itself is not moving down the hill at all. It’s 30 years old, and the inspector said there wasn’t even any sign of movement in the chimney, which is a common place to see it. The foundation isn’t cracking or separating. The majority of the drop off starts part way through the deck, and it isn’t a cliff face or anything. There are houses below it, at the property line at the bottom of the hill.

I really appreciate everyone’s concern for our well being. Once we’re in there, I’ll post a bunch of pictures. In the meantime, trust that we’re not making a dangerous or forced purchase. Our eyes are wide open.

What’s this? KNITTING content? Whoa!

Yesterday, I was wanting some simple, stockinette project to knit, as my down time leaves me anxious for some resolution. SO, I might go out and look for some Red Heart today to start on the baby’s Superman blanket.

I was talking to someone about Red Heart awhile back, and they were knocking it, and I told them why I was contemplating it for this project (it’s tidy appearance, the lack of pilling), and she said that it never looks like wool. It always has a plastic sort of look to it.

This is true.

Which is perfect for a cape blanket, no? I mean, I don’t know what Superman’s cape is made of, but it certainly isn’t wool. So I’m thinking my blanket shouldn’t look like wool either.

Also, I’ve started the heel flap on one of the green Austermann socks. But I’m not in humor for tiny stitches and tiny needles right now, so they’re going to be set aside for a bit I think.

The lack of pictures in my posts recently is driving me crazy, so, since I don’t have anything new to show, I’m going to show you another shot of the Mr. Rogers exhibit that is knitting related.

Oh, and a link to the new MagKnits just showed up in my inbox. And I have to say that this is scrumptious. But I’d need to try to do something different on the brim. I can’t picture that on me. The crocheted scallops from Esther Williams might look nice.

Hmmmmmm.
