Why don’t I do more of this?

Kid knitting is so fast! I cast on for Abby’s left sweater front last night, and was almost to the armhole shaping before I stopped.

And I’m not a fast knitter! This is cool.

The back easily blocked out to 16 inches, and once it was dry and I gave it a good shake and fluff, it shrunk down to 14.5 inches, which is the gauge my swatch blocked to. So I’m going to add a little to the fronts to give a bit more room. If it doesn’t lay right, I’ll rip it out and redo it without the additional stitches, but I’m not worried. Either way, this is knitting up quick and painless so far. The only thing that has turned out different than planned is the length. I didn’t know how close to her armpits I should be before shaping the armholes, I went a little long, and then the armholes themselves just seem longer than I expected, even though they’re the correct measurement.

On the plus side, the sweater is now as long as Abby wanted it. I wanted it shorter. She and I disagree on the point that the layered look is cute, with the shirt coming lower than the over-sweater. She thinks it looks stupid. I showed her pictures. She didn’t care. Oh well. It’ll get worn more being to her liking.

Hey, congrats on your quick knitting! I’m glad that it’s coming together for you so nicely.

Also, are we on for tonight, or are you and Nate “dating”?

I’m totally going to have to knit up some kid sweaters. You are inspiring me!!! Only thing is I am trying to knit just from the stash and it’s all sock yarns LOL. Guess I’ll be doing those for awhile first.

Kid knits are the best aren’t they?? Only thing better are baby knits. So quick and everything in miniature is always much cuter isn’t it?

The sweater is looking great. I like the layered look although not on myself. Just think, if she likes it in a year’s time the sweater will be shorter on her and still fit. I always try to make my daughter’s sweaters longer so she doesnt grow out of them so fast, although if I make them too long they look ridiculous.

Don’t worry about the armholes looking long! I’ve shortened them for the same reason before and regretted it. If she wants to wear a turtleneck or something underneath you don’t want the shirt bunching up around the armpit. It’s beautiful.

I’m knitting with stash yarn also, trying to discipline myself to use it up before I buy more. The result is that I don’t knit much at all now, which stinks. I have such oddments in my stash that I think it’s time to pitch the whole batch and start over. About all I can do is dolls, so that’s what I’m making.

In a totally rambling comment…..I don’t remember where I was when I clicked to your blog – but I’m enjoying my visit.

On the bug front….been there, done that. But I had boys who each wore a buzz cut for awhile. Much luckier than you.

Health Club frustration…..I just saw your picture from your Stitch ‘n Pitch night. You look wonderful. The changes that you have made in your life/diet are paying off if you are gardening, walking, etc. Keep it up, girl!

Stitch markers….you said you reread your tutorial, but I don’t see a link to that in your sidebar and would love to read up on it. I have beads – but not sure how to turn them into stitch markers.

My stash is in storage, with my skein winder. Am I an idiot or what? Guess I have no choice but finish the IN progress sea silk spider web shawl. Too bad my last two skeins, still need to be wound into balls! I survived another open house today, and I finished a hat for Katie this morning, that I started yesterday. I love small knits. I had justification for starting another project, Its for the Knitmeup.com yarn test. Tomorrow she will probably wear it, as I could barely get it off her today!

Isn’t it funny when the moms are trendier than the daughters? My sister buys her daughter the cutest clothes, and all she wants to wear are baggy jeans and t-shirts!
