Health Group- Year 4, week 17

It was a really, really, really good week. It would have been a perfect week, but I couldn’t exercise yesterday and more critical to the claim of perfection, I had sugar last night.

BUT….

I’ve met my calorie target every day this week and drank a lot of water. I exercised Monday through Thursday. And until last night, I had no sugar. (Except for one tiny bite of cookie on Monday, to save Clark’s face and clothes from a soft and gooey chocolate chip).

I am very pleased. I’m still not weighing myself, just trying to be healthy.

That being said, I have a mild UTI. I haven’t had one in years, but in the past when I would get them, I’d get rid of it by drinking a ton of cranberry juice, which has massive amounts of sugar added. One gallon of Cranberry Cocktail has 1961 calories. So, how am I supposed to get rid of this thing without doubling my calorie intake for the day? Because I still have to eat.

Lame.

How was your week?

A note about the cranberry juice. You can buy unsweetened cranberry juice in the healthy section of Fred Meyer. It’s reallly tart, but you can add stevia to it and not any more calories, and stay awat from sugar.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

Been reading your stories for awhile now, love them! there is also a cranberry capsule you can take for all the cran-goodness and none of the sugar. it should be available in with other suppliments (i recently had a UTI and im diabetic and can’t have all the juice either) good luck!

I was just going to suggest the pure cranberry as well…it’s very expensive though! Hope you’re feeling better soon and wtg on the great week.

My doc says that once you have a UTI, taking cran is not advised as the acidity is not good for the tract, but taking it before you get the UTI is beneficial. ReAzo helps, but antibiotics kill the infection itself. (I know, not the natural way!)

I totally agree with everyone else. I was going to suggest the unsweetened cran juice from Fred meyer or any health food store. I also always have cranberry capsules that I take if I ever even get an inkling that I’m getting one. It zaps them right away. Capsules or juice…either work 🙂 I hope you are feeling better!

Actually, drinking a lot of water does the same sort of thing that cranberry juice might–flushing out your UT. I had several serious (lifesaving) surgeries when I was a kid because I was born with kidney and UTI birth defects. I was constantly encouraged to drink cranberry juice because of that and the insuing infections, and let me tell you, I hate it! As a result, as soon as I was old enough to ask the doctor, I found out–drinking water is probably just as good. Yes, cranberries are acidic, but it’s the increased fluids that also really help. Drink water–and don’t worry about the juice unless you want it. Hope this helps.

Just to add my two cents to the whole cranberry thing: my doc said that cranberry “cocktail” type drinks are more sugar than juice and that the infection feeds on the sugar. So, I say go with the just water idea or at least go with the no sugar option.
