Our trip to Forks

So, Nate and I went out of town for his birthday. We went to the Olympic Peninsula to stay in a little cabin on the ocean in La Push, which is an indian reservation, and to visit Forks and the rain forest.

(Forks is the town where those vampire books I’ve been talking about were set).

On the way out there, we stopped in Port Angeles to eat dinner at the Bella Italia, (the restaurant in the book), which was very, very good. Nate refused to give me a decent smile, (he really hates having his picture taken) so you get a picture of an empty booth.

There were four women at the table next to us that came from Canada and were asking for Mushroom Ravioli, breadsticks, and Coke (what Bella ate in the book). The restaurant didn’t have mushroom ravioli, and Nate and I were dying, trying not to laugh as the very enthusiastic Twilight fans were geeking out all over the waitress.

After dinner, we made the famed night drive from Port Angeles to Forks, tho’ we obeyed the speed limit.

Our cabin in La Push was great. Very cute and right on the ocean.

And it had the biggest bathtub I’ve ever seen.

You seriously could have fit four people in there.

In the morning, we went to Forks for breakfast

and went grocery shopping.

I bought a hat.

The visitor’s center was great.

It was decked out with Twilight posters and banners and such. The guy working there got all excited when we said we’d read the books, and gave us a map of sights to see, along with an envelope full of stuff including a Twilight Trivia test and a baggie of First Beach Sand.

When we got back to the cabin, Nate did some reading

and I knit for awhile

before we went for an hour long walk on the beach. Our cabin was right on First Beach, and it was gorgeous.

We came back to dry out

The next morning, it was sunny and gorgeous, and we got a few pictures before heading to the rain forest, which you saw a week or so ago in my hat post.

What a fabulous trip! I was hoping you would post a recap once you were feeling better 🙂

That is too funny about those women at Bella Italia, I wonder if the restaurant would think about putting mushroom ravioli on their menu – maybe creating a “Bella Special” 😉

We were in Forks and La Push last summer (2006) and had a great time, but of course I hadn’t even heard of the Twilight series then so I missed out on lots of great opportunities to sightsee. Ah, well.

Those pictures look great! Looks like you guys had an awesome weekend.
Now that I’ve seen “location” pics I want to read the books!

it looks like you both had a fantastic time, that cabin is lovely and your beach photos are wonderful.

Ooo, oooo, what cabin is that? Tom and I are thinking of staying somewhere on the coast for a few days this winter. It looks wonderful!
Glad you had a blast. Oh, and as a resident of Port Angeles, I have to say that Bella Italia is one of only 2 or 3 restaurants in town worth eating at. I know the owner, I’ll suggest the mushroom ravioli idea to him!

wow those pictures are awesome! Little Clark is soooo cute! Aren’t you glad you finally have a boy!

Thanks for the tour of La Push. We lived there for two years thirty years ago when Gary was the cook at the USCG station. Needless to say, the cabins you describe weren’t there then, but I remember driftwood trees as large as the one you’re standing next to. Even more impressive, we saw the same tree (it had been used as a fireplace so I’m quite sure it was the same one) before and after winter storms. First it was parallel to the waterline; then at right angles and a hundred feet further down Third Beach, which shows the power of the storms that hit La Push.

We visited La Push and Forks ten years ago, and it’s probably time to think about another trip.

My family and I were in the peninsula during the same time you were! We went to Kalaloch and stayed in a cabin on the bluff, where my family has been going just about every year since I was a baby. It’s so fun to go to the ocean in November…the weather is always unpredictable and exciting. Sunshine one minute, hail and driving rain the next. We lost power Monday night, but with the fire going, who cares! Glad you had a good trip.
