Health Group- Year 2, week 12

Good morning. It actually is a good morning, because I was able to EAT BREAKFAST!! I even cooked it myself! This is very exciting. Yesterday showed some improvement in that I was able to knit for a couple hours, until I wasn’t anymore. And I’m not sure if I’ll be able to pick it up again today. But back to food… I made some yummy whole wheat pancakes and Lemon Blossom Tea this morning. I am nauseated, but it doesn’t feel debilitating yet. I might be able to do something more than lay in bed and play Tetris for hours. And hours. And hours. (I’m not kidding. And when I play against the computer on the Hard Level, it’s STILL kicking my butt)!

I think all I managed this week was a couple days of physical therapy. It’s amazing how much more important it is to me now, (important enough to do it, even though it could make me ralph. Who wants to contract abdom’s for sustained periods of time while moving appendages when they want to hurl?), now that I’m looking at months of relaxed joints and increased pressure on the already very temperamental base of my spine.

I am happy that today, so far, I’m able to get out of bed. Maybe I’ll try for a little treadmill? Maybe? If my strength holds?

Oh, and I’ve lost a couple pounds. I think I’m around 223. Hooray for decreased appetite!

How’s it going for you?

I haven’t been too good with the eating, and I think I’m a pound or two up… There’s wedding after wedding after wedding this summer, I don’t know what’s up with all my friends! But I did something to excercise, I started ballet last sunday and will go again tomorrow. The first lesson was quite painful, the muscles of my legs ached until Friday or so, but I hope it’ll get better.

When I got pregnant with my guy, I was pretty heavy. For the first 6 months I didn’t gain any weight at all. In total I gained 16 lbs. The great news was that a month later I had lost 28lbs. Nursing and the fact that he decreased my appetite and then used all my extra fat was great! I’ve gained about 8 lbs back (which is still keeps me at the “overweight” stage) but being pregnant (and subsequent nursing) was one of the best weight loss plans ever!

Congratulations on your big news. Here’s to a healthy baby (that sleeps through the night by 3 months)!

Glad you are able to keep food down today! It’s rough but worth it!

Did a lot of walking this week, but no gym unfortunately. I’ve also been eating way too many cookies which can’t be good. Oh well, there’s always next week.
Great job on keeping up with the P.T. You’re right, you’ll need it as all those ligaments get loose. Be careful with the herbal teas though – some of them contain herbs that aren’t good for pregnancy. There’s a book out there that has a reference section to look up the ingredients and see if they’re safe. I think it’s called The Expectant Mother’s Guide to Prescription Drugs and Home Remedies or something like that. I have my own copy somewhere – I just haven’t unpacked it yet!

I’m doing OK. I’m still walking on my breaks, but I haven’t worked in the crunches yet. I only lost 6/10 of a pound this week, but I am not discouraged. I just keep reminding myself that I am in this for the long haul.

  6. Tori Says:

Congratulations! AND Horray for you! I wish I’d stayed in better shape while pregnant with my now 3 year old by sticking with excercise. Looking back, it would have been easier before she was born and I might have stayed on track a little better afterwards. I had a wonderful pregnancy, but no doubt it would have helped how I felt too. Take care! Tori

I’m so glad to hear you’re feeling a bit better!!! That tea sounds good; especially their tip of sprinkling it over fish for seasoning. I love my SPIKE, but fish always needs a bit o’lemon for the right zing.

I weighed in with fear yesterday; I’ve been eating horribly for a week now. Well, I should say, any actual meals were good, but I ate way too much candy, chips and snacky things. I am having a second visitation by “fred” so it seems that I am paying back for not having menses for 12 years by having it constantly now.

Anyway, I was shocked by the scale and weighed myself about 5 times before I finally gave up and decided it was telling the truth…

    189.5

I’ll take. But I want “fred” to go away!!!

    Have a great week, ladies!

About exercise, have you thought about Aqua, Yoga or Pilates? Great ways to exercise with least stress to weight-bearing areas. Over here there’s even a class called Aqua-bump! Hope you find a way of keeping it all in balance, I’m sure you know your own body well enough to know when you’re doing it right. Ginger’s good for nausea, it says so in the books, but so is charcoal, apparently!

  9. Jenny Says:

No progress this week, but, I rather expected that. I had cake at the baby shower, and there was a small box of candy in the shower gift. I stretched it out by only eating one piece a day. Actually, I’m glad I didn’t gain!
I’m glad you’re feeling better at least some of the time, Laura!
