What does night-shift look like?

‘Twere the hours before daylight, when all through the house, not a creature was stirring….

except for mom-the-milk-machine.

It’s my first go with the sling. I’m liking it mucho. Clark was fussing quite a bit. The instant I put him in it, he fell fast asleep.

Which is kind of annoying, because I’m not asleep, BUT, I can now raid the fridge with both hands! And I can take pictures of myself in the stairwell mirror and post them.

That’s something.

    Aww! He’s so adorable.

  2. chris Says:

He’s just beautiful – so sweet!!! I’m sure you know it gets better, but grab the sleep whenever you can!

  3. Nicole Says:

    Laura,

Congrats on little Clark! Don’t worry, I haven’t even had my baby yet and I can’t sleep either!! So you’re not alone out there! 🙂 Jake (my 3 year old) was my fussy baby too. I had him in a carrier a lot! Good luck on getting a little sleep!

  4. Scout Says:

I know I keep saying it but DAMN is he perfect!

  5. Laura Clark M Says:

I had to de-lurk to wish you congratulations! My name is Laura and my middle name is Clark! Clark is just a doll and your girls are all so lovely! All the best to you and your family!

  6. Sara Says:

Congrats congrats congrats on the birth of your beautiful son! His birth weight and length were nearly the same as my own little guy when he was born, so I got a nice little flashback to my own newborn milk machine days. Good luck on getting as much sleep as you can!

  7. Jo Says:

He is beautiful – and I laughed out loud at the mom-the-milk-machine comment!

Congratulations! He is so precious! You are gonna love your sling. My boys were the happiest babies in it, and is was doubley awesome at the grocery store. Nurse on mama…I’m getting baby lust!

  9. Jenny Says:

How cool is that sling!! I wish I had had one!
I remember watching a LOT of late night tv when mine were little. Have you considered printing out some of your congratulatory comments and tucking the pages into Clark’s baby book?
When I tandem nursed (twice!), people would ask me if I felt like a cow……that question still annoys me when I think of it!

Hello from your closet reader, Shannon in Wisconsin! Clark has got to be one of the most beautiful babies I have ever seen. You look so happy in your photos!

I have enjoyed reading your blog and have taken up knitting again (and learning more techniques so I can knit your Esther Williams hat).

    Congrats to your family again!

  11. Crimson Says:

That sling looks like it will be infinitely helpful. Happy baby AND two free hands ? how much better can it get? (I had to tell my mom about your beautiful little boy, by the by, and she says congrats, too.)

  12. Janell Says:

I have to tell ya…boys love their mama’s. And Clark isn’t going to be an exception. He is going to want to be close to you which is why the sling will work out really well for you. He is a cutie.

  13. jen Says:

ohhhhhhhhh so precious! I’m so glad he likes the sling, it makes life SO much easier – WAYYYYYYYYYYYY easier to go out & about with them in one than have to carry an infant seat, esp. with other little hands to hold (so says the former daycare worker and mother of one sling-loving baby boy). and if I must say, for sleep-deprived & only a few days post-partum, you look fanTAStic

  14. hayden Says:

Aww, so cute. I’m glad you’re home, safe and sound, and that you’re able to use both hands…very much a good thing I’d think.

Have a great weekend, and again, he’s adorable.

  15. Kathy Says:

B-E-A-utiful! Make sure you sleep when you can! 🙂

  16. beth Says:

Isn’t the sling AWESOME!?! I used mine all the time when I got it and it was so great being able to have my hands free. I also loved my Boppy and hated to be without it. The dude who invented it was brilliant:)

  17. Katie Says:

So adorable – I love when they’re little snuggle beans like that. That sling is a beautiful one – did someone make it for you? My babies loved the sling and the boppy too. Boy, was that a handy purchase. I read your earlier post and I never even thought to sit on it myself – what a great idea! When my boys were about six weeks old, I’d put the boppy on the floor with a blanket placed over it, wrap up baby in another blankie, and set them in it like a little seat so they could see me when I needed my hands free. Do you have slipcovers for yours? I ruined my first boppy in the washing machine, but the company was nice enough to send me another one for free!

  18. Karma Says:

I’m so glad to hear you like that sling. I know everyone is different, yadda yadda, but I’m interested in trying a sling when my belly pops, too. Do you feel that this sling gives you enough “coverage” to use it for nursing in public? That sleeping baby is so sweet I want to bite him. 🙂

  19. Ginger Says:

I loved my sling and used it all the time with my son. I even did quite a bit of sewing with him in the sling.

  20. Amy Lu Says:

He’s so cute he makes my uterus hurt! ((((I want more babies!!!!!))))

We L-O-V-E slings at our house! We did the Over-the-Shoulder-Baby-Holder, it has a little more padding. We have 3 slings (even though we only have 2 kids) and we’ve just grown out of them. I even have a leopard print one with a matching kid-size sling (for dolls) for Veronica…. Let me know if you’re game.

  21. FYRKRKR Says:

My friend Kimn swore that sling is what saved her life when she had her son, Niklaus. They were pretty new back then. Glad it is working for you!
    Get some rest!

  22. Emy Says:

It’s such a great idea to use the slinger which my sis kindly refused. 😛

  23. Sheree Says:

OMGosh what a cutie! I used a sling with both my boys and it’s the BEST. You can carry baby and type at the same time! Woot!

  24. Dani Says:

    What a sweet face!

  25. Lorie Says:

Precious photos, Laura. Wish I’d had a sling when my (grown) kiddos were babies.

Along with raiding the fridge and typing, YOU CAN KNIT (carefully) with two freed-up hands!

  26. Merrill Says:

I am just now catching your blog and can I say you are one beautiful mom. Really. And you have such a beautiful family. My youngest is 4 mos old and I wish I looked half as great FOUR MOS LATER! Seriously…

Love the sling. We are using a mei tai from babyhawk.com. Love it, but the ring deals are so nice for newborns. Have you tried nursing in it using a football hold? Its great!

I am following your weight loss as we are the same size! Good luck girl!
