Health Group- Year 4, week 23

I did pretty good this week, though I didn’t do my weights and core strengthening like I’d hoped. But I ate well. Lots of vegetables. Lots of water. Minimal sugar.

My skin is better already.

How was your week?

No luck.

I couldn’t find anything to wear to the Christmas party at the mall yesterday. I didn’t buy yarn, either. I’m not sure what I’m going to do, but I do have the Sea Silk stole, so I’ll try to fashion something around that.

This morning, I’m cleaning up and making batts.

More making batts than cleaning up, actually, but that needs to change. There are carded batts, dyed rovings, and empty Christmas decoration boxes all over the kitchen/living room area, and I need to get a handle on it.

Nate vetoed the brocade and flannel.

I suppose it needed to be done.

I’m having insane thoughts about trying to make an outfit for myself before Nate’s Christmas party on the 15th. Talk me out of it. Currently, I’m thinking of making a skirt and sweater combo.

I have such a hard time finding clothes that fit me right on the top, and my standard t-shirts aren’t going to cut it. Blast.

I think I’m going to head to the mall today, and if that doesn’t yield success, I’ll hit the yarn store on the way home and stress out for the next week and a half.

Sounds like fun.

Ack! There’s no time.

The girls are going to be home from school in 20 minutes or so, and I’m not ready. But I promised I’d show up today, and with the weather being what it is around here, having made national news and such, I didn’t want to worry anyone.

First of all, we’re all fine.

Secondly, I went to the fabric store today to buy fabric for a craft with the girls that you’ll undoubtedly see later, if it makes it out of the bag and we actually do it. I also bought some fabric for a new tree skirt, because mine totally gets on my nerves. (It’s entirely the wrong red). As it turns out, I didn’t buy enough of one of the fabrics. I forgot that most fabric doesn’t come as wide as felt does, and I was basing my tree skirt construction on my recent experience with poodle skirts.

So, I either need to go back to the store (no, no, no) or be creative with what I’ve got. I’m voting for creative.

Initially, it was my intent to make a two sided skirt. The fancy brocade on one side and the funky flannel that reminds me of our early ’70s kitchen carpet on the other. Both look great with the shag carpet-ish trim. BUT, I don’t have enough of the brocade. So I’m toying with the idea of combining them. Another option would be to use the leftover gold cotton from my funky tablecloth as a filler somehow. I’m liking the brocade and flannel idea, tho’ it sounds absolutely wrong when you say (or type, as the case may be) it out loud.

Flannel and brocade? Together??? What’s up with that?

And holy cow, look at this.

It’s my early anniversary gift from Nate! And it’s in my house! I’m ecstatic, and need to get my fleece dyed so I can play with it.

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year…”

I wish there were music notes on a keyboard so you’d know that I’m quoting a song.

I love Christmas. I love December. I love to get out the boxes of Christmas stuff and be reminded of things I inevitably forget about that make me all sentimental and happy. I love decorating the house… not just for me, but for hearing the squeals of delight and excitement it brings to my girls. And this year, I get to see Clark’s face fill with wonder as he sees the lights and bright, colorful things fill the house.

He joined right in with the girls last night, playing with golden bead garlands while I wrapped ribbon through the tree. (I should have got a picture of that. Dangit).

The tree is now ribboned and beaded and ready for ornaments.

The countdown is well under way

As is the advent calendar

Now, I need to make lists.

It’s crazy here, weather-wise. Roads are closed everywhere. It took Nate an hour + to get home from the early morning religion class that he teaches. It’s usually an 8 minute drive. There’s water everywhere. Nate said that when he was on the road, the oncoming cars were hitting puddles that sprayed water over the top of his car. It’s supposed to rain heavily until Wednesday, and there’s already flooding all around us. We’re on a hill, so the only thing we have to worry about is our garage, which is at the bottom of our steep driveway. And if we were responsible homeowners, and had our gutters cleaned out, we wouldn’t even need to worry about that.

I have a lot to tell/show, but I’m ready to get on with my day, so I’ll see you all again tomorrow.

Happy Christmas season!

Health Group- Year 4, week 22

Well.

I haven’t gone an entire month without posting Health Group since Health Group began 3 1/2 years ago. I hang my head before you today.

So, as I’m sure you can imagine, I haven’t been doing much in the way of exercising. We went out of town the first weekend in November, then I had a kidney infection, and it seems like I’ve been mildly sick ever since. SO, my goal for this week is to drink a lot of water (I think I’m a bit dehydrated), eat lots of vegetables, and do my core strengthening exercises at least twice.

I don’t feel up to the treadmill yet, and my hip has been bothering me. I don’t want to exacerbate anything.

How has your month/week been?
